The ball just kind of sits in one place and shakes. This was on hardwood flooring. On carpet it is pretty much stationary. If you are looking for something to clean your floor, look elsewhere. It may entertain a cat for a short while

Funny to watch it go, and it collected tons of fluff from the edges of the room as well, which are hard for a person to get to sometimes. Did a fabulous job.
